Honor Brewing Company to Host ‘Puppies & Beers’ Event to Benefit Veterans and Service Dogs

The Chantilly fundraiser will feature a specialty brew and support the nonprofit organization Leashes of Valor.

By Rachel Schlueter June 14, 2023 at 12:51 pm

Leashes of Valor, a national nonprofit that provides service dogs to veterans at zero cost to them, has partnered with Honor Brewing Company for a family-friendly “Puppies & Beers” fundraising event to be held at the Chantilly tasting room on Saturday, June 24. (14004 Willard Rd., Ste. A, Chantilly)

Veteran-owned Honor Brewing Company is pouring out a specialty brew called Monsoon throughout the month of June; it’s named after one of the first Leashes of Valor graduates. All month long, 25 percent of all proceeds from Monsoon purchases will benefit Leashes of Valor. The June 24 event will run from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and feature a corn hole tournament, puppy kisses, and more.

Monsoon’s owner Rob was wounded in combat during his 2007 tour in Iraq, when a sniper shot him in the face, causing Rob to lose his right eye. Rob tried many different methods to cope and always thought about having a service dog.

“When I met Monsoon, the first thing he did was run up to me and kiss my face,” Rob said, according to Leashes of Valor. “I was filled with joy. I finally knew I was going to be okay.”

Since 2017, Leashes of Valor has trained service dogs for post-9/11 veterans to help alleviate symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury, and military sexual trauma. Leashes of Valor aims to support and improve the lives of veterans and service animals. When possible, it sources dogs from animal shelters and rescue organizations.

Leashes of Valor trains service dogs at its Fredericksburg facility Axel’s Place, named after Leashes of Valor founder and CEO Jason’s service dog.
