Chuck Todd is “passing the baton” and leaving Meet the Press after nearly a decade.
The Arlington resident made the announcement Sunday morning, saying this would be his final summer.
Todd, 51, said, “I’ve watched too many friends and family let work consume them before it was too late.”
He said he promised his family he wouldn’t do that.
Taking over for Todd will be Kristen Welker, a former chief White House correspondent. Welker, 46,will be the first Black moderator of the show and the first woman since the show’s first host, Martha Rountree, who left in 1953, according to The Associated Press.
Last year, Northern Virginia Magazine talked in-depth with Todd about his life, TV, and his guilty pleasures.
