345 Residential Units Proposed as Part of Isaac Newton Square Redevelopment

The new residences would be within walking distance of the Wiehle-Reston East Metro station.

Plans to redevelop Reston’s Isaac Newton Square — once known as Reston’s first industrial center — are moving forward, with the developer now proposing 345 residential units on part of the site.

Fairfax County in 2019 approved the plans to redevelop the 32-acre office park and its parking lots with more than 2.8 million square feet of new construction that will include residential, hotel, office, and retail spaces.

In January, Florida-based Peter Lawrence Cos. proposed 360,000 square feet of residential space that would create 345 units on the northernmost portion of the site, according to the Washington Business Journal. It would be the first of 10 planned subparts to the overall development.

The proposed development would be larger than originally planned.

Isaac Newton Square’s former office buildings have already been demolished. It is located northwest at the intersection of Sunset Hills Road and Wiehle Avenue, a half mile away from the Silver Line’s Wiehle-Reston East Metro station.

The redevelopment of Isaac Newton Square, along with the development of Reston Station, are transforming the Reston area, something that could take decades to complete, land use attorney Andrew Painter said in July 2022.
