Virginia loves its wine country. So what better way to celebrate than with a race and festival? Luckily, the annual Virginia Wine Country Half Marathon is back on schedule this month.
After a cancellation last year, the 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon race will be held on Saturday, May 29 at Tarara Winery in Leesburg. The half-marathon runners will start at 7 a.m., with the 5K and 10K participants taking the course at 7:20 a.m. Tickets for the race range from $45-$120. Those who register for the in-person run also receive giveaways, a post-race medal, and entry to the Wine and Music festival.
After the race, runners and spectators can join the Wine and Music festival. Serving between 8 a.m. and noon, the post-race area will feature tastings from over 15 different wineries and local food vendors. Head over to the Tarara Winery pavilion for a performance from the blues quartet The Jay Summerour Band from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Guests will need to purchase a wine glass for $30 in order to enjoy the tasting offers.
Since the race is still taking place during the time of COVID, there are some regulations in place to keep runners and festival-goers safe. As of May 10, the festival at the winery will be limited to 250 people at once.
The race will be limited to 750 runners to ensure social distancing throughout the course. Masks will need to be worn at the start and finish, at the aid stations, and whenever you’re less than 10 feet from another runner. Everyone will also be required to sign a waiver to ensure they are not sick and do not have COVID-19.
