Explore Virginia Wine Country with the Gold Medal Wine Trail

With the click of a button and the pop of a cork, your local wine adventure begins.

By Sponsored Partnership April 1, 2021 at 8:30 am

As spring dawns and the warm weather calls you outside, we invite you to explore, sip and savor the best of Virginia Wine. Now introducing the Gold Medal Wine Trail, a mobile passport that brings gold medal-winning wineries from the 2021 Virginia Governor’s Cup® competition right to your fingertips.

The Virginia Governor’s Cup®, hosted by the Virginia Wineries Association, is the state’s most stringent wine competition. Year after year, it recognizes the best wines being produced here in Virginia. After sampling a record-breaking 544 entries in 2021, world-class judges awarded 47 wineries, cideries, and meaderies across the Commonwealth with 96 gold medals. Discover all of the award-winning wines here.

By signing up at taste.virginiawine.org, consumers will have access to the Gold Medal Wine Trail—which includes discounts and prizes—on their mobile device through December 31, 2021.

Passholders who check-in at 12 participating locations will be eligible for a free Virginia Wine wine tumbler, while supplies last. Select wineries are offering their own redeemable deals, too. From free tastings of gold medal-winning wine to discounts on bottle purchases, the trail opens the door to an exclusive Virginia Wine experience.

As a budding wine region, Virginia is home to over 300 wineries. Among the 47 gold medalists, there is wide representation from Central Virginia, Chesapeake Bay, Hampton Roads, Northern Virginia, and the Shenandoah Valley—regions that are putting Virginia on the map. The broad geographical diversity of wineries and wines highlights Virginia winemakers’ ability to listen to their land and navigate the Commonwealth’s varied landscape and conditions.

Every vintage is a new adventure, for wine producers and wine lovers alike.

“Year in and year out, we’re seeing the Virginia Wine industry continue to push boundaries and make distinctive wines that show confidence, style, and the character of the region,” said Jay Youmans, MW and judging director of the Governor’s Cup® competition since 2011.

Follow the trail to discover and savor the award-winning wines that embody the grace, grit, and experimental spirit of Virginia. Start exploring Virginia’s wine country today with the Gold Medal Wine Trail!
