Here’s what the region’s housing market looked like in June

New data from Bright MLS shows the DC metro region achieved a new best for single-family and townhome median sale prices.

Although this year’s spring and summer housing market had to battle against a pandemic, it doesn’t mean the market isn’t heating up like is usually does this time of year.

According to new data from Bright MLS, the DC Metro region achieved a 10-year best for single-family and townhome median sales price in June.

“June saw the DC metro real estate market continue its record-setting comeback from the early COVID market of the spring,” said Chris Finnegan, chief marketing and communications officer at Bright MLS, in a recent press release.

It was also the best June in a decade for new pending home sales and the best June in a decade for attached homes and condo median sale prices too.

In total, homes in the region stayed on the market for a June low of nine days last month. Both Fairfax and Alexandria counties reported their highest median monthly sales price in a decade, with Fairfax townhomes selling at a 10-year record high of $485,000, with Herndon coming in at $476,000, up by 13.9%.

In Alexandria, the city saw its second-highest year-over-year gain ever with single-family homes selling for a June record of $937,000. Detached units in the 22301 Del Ray/Rosemont zip code closed for $1.06 million, a 17.3% gain.

The data also shows Alexandria and Arlington’s new listings featured some of the region’s most notable gains, with Alexandria improving 38.5% compared to last month, and Arlington advancing 39.4% from May.
