Lorton-based stylist Kara Allan launches two body scrubs

Named after members of her family, Allan’s naturally made scrubs are meant to nourish the skin ahead of summertime heat.

By Jess Feldman July 6, 2020 at 3:52 pm

As a style coach and makeup artist, Kara Allan has always valued a good beauty routine. And, in recent years, she’s added another skill to her long list of fashion-forward jobs as a maker, creating sugar scrubs that rejuvenate the skin, just in time for humid-filled summer days in NoVA.

Allan started making scrubs after realizing there weren’t many skin products on the market that would help her skin feel soft, smooth and youthful, while also protecting it at the same time. After a little trial and error, she found a product worth using and selling via Etsy under the name Tulip Scensations, titled after the nickname Allan uses for her daughters and granddaughter.

The two scrubs—Simply Divine Lemon and Luscious Lavender—are both made of coconut oil and almond oil, the latter of which gives customers a needed dose of vitamin E, which is said to lighten dark spots, nourish the skin with antioxidants and provide a moisture defense. Coconut oil has benefits too, as it can remove any bacteria that collects on the skin, generating the pores.

“Skin is the biggest organ on your body, it’s important to take good care of it,” says Allan of her newest releases. While the Simply Divine Lemon is made of sugar, lemon essential oil, lemongrass essential oil, lemon zest and either almond or coconut oil, the Luscious Lavender is made of lavender oil, lavender essential oil, lavender flower buds and almond or lavender oil, depending on the shopper’s preferences.
