The Hylton Performing Arts Center cancels all shows through the fall

The popular Manassas venue suspended all traditional, live and professional public performances or events inside its venue.

As the region continues to move through Gov. Ralph Northam’s phased reopening, many businesses and venues within Northern Virginia are keeping their doors closed over continued safety concerns.

Most recently, the Hylton Performing Arts Center announced its decision to suspend public presentations inside its venues through the end of 2020, including its annual Hylton Presents, Hylton Family Series, EXTRA!, Matinee Idylls and American Roots performances.

The Hylton Center is currently exploring alternatives with community-based arts organizations and other rental partners for its fall programming.

The venue is a part of George Mason University’s College of Visual and Performing Arts, located on the university’s Science and Technology campus.

In a recent press release, Rick Davis, dean of George Mason’s College of Visual and Performing Arts, shared, “Armed with as much information as we could gather on the science, public health and risk mitigation aspects of the virus required to be in place when attending or participating in a performance, we concluded that there is no good way to provide a safe, comfortable and artistically satisfying environment inside our spaces as long as the current social distancing guidelines are in effect.”

This year marks the Hylton Center’s 10th anniversary; and although it will look different, the venue is determined to find creative opportunities for digital programming and in-person programming when it is safe to do so.
