Staying healthy and active is more important now than ever, but heading to the gym isn’t exactly an option (even many gyms in apartment buildings are closed too).
Here’s a list of local gyms that have shut their doors for the time being, and a handful that are offering in-home workouts that you can do from your living room.
Ascend Cycle
The cycling studio has temporarily closed out of “an abundance of caution” during the spread of COVID-19 across the region, according to its website. All local residents with Ascend memberships will be placed on hold until the studio reopens. Ascend Cycle was named the Best Cycle Studio in our 2019 reader-voted Best of NoVA issue. // 2413 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria
Equinox
Despite originally closing only the Los Angeles-area clubs, the luxury brand has moved to close all locations across the country, including Tysons Corner. Please contact the location for more details on memberships and future updates. // 8065 Leesburg Pike, Vienna
F45
With one location in Tysons and another in Loudoun County, F45 has decided to suspend all in-studio classes as of March 17. But good news—local trainers are beginning to post in-home workouts on Instagram for both locations. Check out F45 Ashburn and F45 Tysons for daily workouts until in-person classes are back on the schedule. // 1640 Boro Place, Suite 206, McLean and 21020 Sycolin Road, Suite 115, Ashburn
Good Sweat
The local cycling studio has temporarily suspended all classes until at least Tuesday, March 31, but is offering local guests a unique opportunity to help you continue to support the business by renting one of the studio’s bikes! It’s easily transportable in a large-enough vehicle, and you’re welcome to use it in your own space for $39 a week. That way, you don’t even have to get out of your own routine. The studio will also be extending class-pass expiration dates and having upcoming flash sales. // 1711 Wilson Blvd., Arlington
Homegrown Power Yoga
Herndon-based Homegrown Power Yoga can’t bring the same heat into your home as it can in the studio, but it’s livestreaming daily classes with rotating instructors, as all in-person classes are canceled in the space. Tune in on Zoom by signing up for the class, or livestream on Instagram and Facebook. Founder Alison Adams has also been recording 10- to 15-minute daily meditations to follow at home too. // 295 Sunset Park Drive, Herndon
LA Fitness
“In order to do our part in the efforts to flatten the curve and the impact of the COVID-19 virus, we have made the very difficult decision to close the operations of all of our clubs beginning March 16 to at least April 1. To no cost for current members, the brand will be offering online workout videos to do at home,” said the fitness brand in a recent, public message. // 9946 Liberia Ave., Manassas; 21074 Dulles Town Circle, Sterling; 6565 Springfield Mall, Springfield; 6200 Little River Turnpike, Alexandria; 1490 Classic Path Way SE, Leesburg
Mind the Mat Yoga & Pilates
Getting in the studio in both Clarendon and Alexandria won’t be an option for a few weeks due to the COVID-19 virus spread, but Mind the Mat Yoga & Pilates is offering a $29-a-week digital pass. All classes are currently moving online and are accessible from anywhere. Classes will be livestreamed and there are a variety of options (beginner, prenatal and more) in the pre-recorded library too. “Try us weekly. Join our online community and maybe stay after all of this is done?,” read the company’s most-recent Facebook post. // 2214 Mount Vernon Ave., Alexandria and 3300 Fairfax Drive, Arlington
Orangetheory Fitness
For OTF fans, it’s time to find a way to get your heart rate up at home. On March 16, the company announced that it would be closing all corporate-owned facilities until Tuesday, March 31, at least, and would be reaching out to local franchisees about the current circumstances. Membership dues are being suspended immediately at all locations. For local updates, contact your home studio. // Various locations
OneLife Fitness
All OneLife Fitness locations have been temporarily closed, but local members now have the option to train from home with workouts from LesMills, TRX and TrainHeroic. Active members can log in to access the pre-recorded library and maintain a workout routine, minus the group-exercise aspect. Don’t have the equipment? Don’t worry. Most workouts are based on training with as little equipment as possible. // Various locations
Planet Fitness
You might be missing the purple-and-yellow walls for a while, as Planet Fitness has moved to close all locations until Tuesday, March 31. For members, download the Planet Fitness app to access over 500 exercises that can be done at home, at any time. And for non-members or Facebook users, visit the Planet Fitness Facebook page for “Home Work-Ins,” a series of free fitness classes held at 7 p.m. EST and hosted by certified trainers and special guests. All classes will be 20 minutes or less and no equipment is required. // Various locations
Pure Barre
There’s no excuse to not keep yourself toned during social distancing, and now that all Pure Barre locations (depending on franchisee’s decisions) are closed, it’s time to get to work at home. Catch Pure Barre’s daily livestreamed classes on Facebook, which will alternate times to accommodate as many people as possible. Missing your local instructors too? Check your home studio’s social media pages to catch more live streaming content and other workouts! // Various locations
[solidcore]
The DC-based core workout brand has closed all locations for the time being, including 72 nationwide studios. All membership fees and class sign-ups will be suspended and refunded until studios reopen. The good news? “We’re creating online content where you will be able to stream [solidcore] at-home workouts for free. We will keep you updated when these go live, and we hope this will help you to stay connected with us during this time,” said a recent press release. // Various locations
VIDA Fitness
DC-based VIDA Fitness, as well as accompanying Bang Salon and Aura Spa, will be closed until Tuesday, March 31. The brand is working on developing online fitness videos for members, but for now is recommending the 95 free Les Mills workouts accessible here. The company is also committing to deeply cleaning all locations and offering remote nutrition counseling from registered dietitians across the region. // Various locations
Yoga Works
Yoga Works has officially closed all locations across the nation for the time being, but has moved all classes online to accommodate a wide range of yogis in their homes. There are 45-minute and 60-minute classes, ranging from “hour of power” to “all-levels vinyasa” and all you need is just a little space to stretch out in your own home. After Monday, March 23, classes will only be free and accessible to active members. // Various locations
