Lyft has started a pilot program with WMATA to help late-night riders (who have been affected by the cut of nighttime hours that occurred three years ago) get home during the hours of midnight to 4 a.m. WMATA will pay Lyft $3 of each registered rider’s fare who are specifically enrolled in the program with their SmarTrip cards. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is giving millions of dollars to two local airports for improvements on safety and efficiency. Reagan Washington International Airport is set to receive $4,921,500 and Dulles International Airport is getting $6,712,012. The investment is a portion of the FAA’s Airport Investment Program that will give an estimated $3.18 billion to almost 400 airports in the U.S. (WUSA9)
The National Parks Service DC officials have started preparing for the Fourth of July celebration, and are claiming this year’s fireworks display will be the largest the nation’s capital has ever seen. The show is set to start at 9:06 p.m. and will last for 35 minutes following the free Capital Fourth concert at the Capitol. (Fox5DC)
A construction worker had a fatal accident during construction on the Paul VI Catholic High School campus in Loudoun County. While the workers were trying to install lights for the baseball field, he fell into a hole he was attempting to cover. Workplace safety officials are investigating the death. (7WJLA)
