Virginia senator working to legalize sports betting; Half of Amazon HQ2 jobs won’t be in tech

Virginia State Senator Chap Petersen (D) said he is planning on filing a bill that would legalize sports betting in Virginia and allow the state to regulate it. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled this past May that states could set up their own laws on sports betting.

New reports indicate that about half of the 25,000 jobs coming to Northern Virginia as part of Amazon’s HQ2 won’t be tech related. At both the New York and NoVA locations, half of the jobs that will be filled fall under administrative, custodial, HR and more.

Two recently elected members of the Alexandria City School Board, Veronica Nolan and Christopher Suarez, received large donations from Leaders in Education Fund, a group that has ties to charter schools. Both Nolan and Suarez denied they will be influenced by the donations.
