Reston Town Center sees some closures, moving of Scrawl Books
Last year, Reston Town Center property owners implemented paid parking causing much uproar. Now Appalachian Spring, a gift shop that was one of the town center’s first occupants, is closing, telling RestonNow that low customer traffic over the last couple of months was most likely caused by the paid parking policies. Other venues that have recently closed at the town center are M&S Grill, Neyla Mediterranean Bistro and Ann Taylor. Scrawl Books has closed it’s Market Street store, but will reopen in a Freedom Drive location this month.

Arlington looking to purchase WETA property for park expansion
In order to expand Jennie Dean Park, Arlington County is in talks with WETA, a PBS affiliate, to purchase property and, hopefully, keep the company headquartered in Shirlington. The deal calls for the county to purchase the studio located on 27th Street for future expansion of Jennie Dean Park and make $500,000 of urban design improvements in the area where WETA’s headquarters currently stand. If approved by the WETA Board of Trustees, the sale could go through in the next two years.

Ms. Peacock’s Champagne Lounge joins The Board Room
Old-fashioned gamers received a bar paying homage to board games in The Board Room, which opened in the former Sehkraft Brewing spot in Clarendon late last year. And the powers that be, the Bedrock Bars parent company that owns the bar and its initial location in D.C., have opened the second part of the locations puzzle: Ms. Peacock’s Champagne Lounge. Find 40-plus varieties of champagne and sparkling wine, plus cocktails, small plates, caviar and more.

Loudoun County to house D.C. United in new stadium
D.C. United is in the process of building a new stadium in Washington, D.C., at Buzzard Point, but that’s not all that the team has planned. Following a Jan. 18 vote, D.C. United will also welcome a 5,000-seat stadium for it’s second-division team at Philip A. Bolen Memorial Park in Leesburg. Construction is expected to begin this spring.

AR Workshop opens location in Leesburg
The popular DIY workshop that got its start in Northern Virginia in Alexandria continues to expand, this time with a new location in Leesburg. People can gather to make home decor, host parties or simply purchase items from the shop. AR Workshop will take the place of the former Arts in the Village gallery.
