This week, NoVA families can make the most of two opening day events (one at a corn maze and the other at the Americans in Wartime Museum) as well as a local festival with live bands, rides, carnival food and a beer and wine garden. Plus, parents who struggle to find time for fitness will be pleased to know that there’s also a 5K fundraiser and a fitness festival on the calendar.

The fall festival and, of course, the corn maze at The Corn Maze in the Plains opens on Sept. 23. There will be no night maze on opening day, but for only $11 ($9 if your child is under 12 and free if under 3), you can get lost in 5 acres of corn and visit the country store and farm animals, plus (only on weekends) go on hayrides and play with pumpkin sling shots.

Sept. 23, 8:30-11:30 a.m

This fundraiser at the Reston Town Center, put on by the Pediatric Specialists of Virginia, will feature not only an opportunity for your family to get your sweat on but also an opportunity for you to explore the Family Health Fair booths, listen to music and enjoy some food. The 5K begins at 8:30 a.m. and the Tot Trot at 10 a.m.

Open House at the Americans in Wartime Museum
Sept. 23-24, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

For little ones who like to look at big vehicles and helicopters, the Americans in Wartime Museum Open House is the place to be. At the Tank Farm in Nokesville, there will also be a scavenger hunt, a living history display and a veterans round table. Your kids may even learn a thing or two about our nation’s history.
