See What I Have Done
On shelves Aug. 1
Sarah Schmidt’s debut novel has been highly anticipated for months due to the hefty amount of advance praise that has accumulated around its release. See What I Have Done begins during the aftermath of the notorious and horrific Borden murders and is written from a maligned Lizzie Borden’s point of view. As Publishers Weekly says, it is “equally compelling as a whodunit, ‘whydunit,’ and historical novel.”
Rough Translation
Stream Aug. 7
Rough Translation is a new podcast series that will follow NPR international correspondent Gregory Warner “to places where the phrasebook fails,” as the NPR release states. Warner will travel “from a Ukrainian battlefield to a Somali prison cell, an Indian yoga studio and beyond” and attempt to find common ground with the people he encounters there.
The Glass Castle
In theaters Aug. 11
This movie adaptation of the New York Times best-selling memoir of the same name will star Academy Award-winner Brie Larson alongside Oscar nominees Naomi Watts and Woody Harrelson. The plot focuses on Jeannette Walls, the memoir’s author, as she and her siblings survive their unconventional and poverty-stricken upbringing with an alcoholic father and artist mother.
Painted Ruins

Grizzly Bear has finally set a release date in August for its first album in four years, Painted Ruins. The Brooklyn-based band is responsible for the catchy pop song “Two Weeks,” but they also have an impressive discography that they plan to expand upon with this upcoming album.
