Eight NoVA storytime events to get your little ones excited about reading

While it might seem difficult to carve out time for regular bedtime stories at home, there are stores and libraries across Northern Virginia that can help supplement your family’s reading routine.

Reading is a fundamental tenant of little ones’ burgeoning educations, and it can spark their imaginations and creativity. While it might seem difficult to carve out time for regular bedtime stories at home, there are stores and libraries across Northern Virginia that can help supplement your family’s reading routine.

Alexandria Public Library
Times vary
Duncan, Beatley Central and Barrett libraries hold weekly storytime events with several themes, including events for families and pre-kindergarteners; French and Spanish storytime; and sensory- and music-focused events. // Multiple locations

Arlington Public Library
Times vary
Shirlington, Aurora Hills, Cherrydale, Glencarlyn, Columbia Pike, Central and Westover libaries all hold weekly storytime, including events for kids under 2 years old and another series for those 2 years and older. There are also the recurring Stop in for Stories and Family Storytime events. // Multiple locations

Barnes & Noble
Times vary
Barnes & Nobles at Tysons Corner Center, Seven Corners Center and Potomac Yard hold weekly storytime events, and Barnes & Nobles in Springfield, Manassas, Arlington and Fairfax often hold one-off storytime events throughout the month. // Multiple locations

Fairfax County Public Library
Times vary
Centreville, Kings Park and Chantilly libraries hold weekly storytime events under serveral themes, including Starlight, Sensory and Adaptive storytime. // Multiple locations

Kinder Haus Toys
Mondays-Wednesdays & Fridays, 10:30
Ms. Laura leads storytime on Wednesdays and Fridays, and Ms. Rhonda leads the events every Monday and Tuesday. // 1220 N. Fillmore St., Arlington

Loudoun County Public Library
Times vary
Ashburn, Lovettsville, Sterling and Middleburg libraries all hold weekly storytime events, including those specifically designed for baby, toddler and preschool levels as well as bilingual and music-focused series. // Multiple locations

Pottery Barn Kids
Tuesdays, 11 a.m.
The Pottery Barn Kids stores at Tysons Corner Center and Fair Oaks Mall hold weekly storytime events. PB members receive special gifts after the events. // Locations in McLean & Fairfax

Prince William County Library
Times vary
Central, Montclair, Potomac, Bull Run, Independent Hill, Haymarket-Gainesville and Lake Ridge libraries hold weekly storytimes, including baby, toddler and preschool-level events; pajama- and bedtime-themed events; and bilingual and Spanish storytime. // Multiple locations
