Get Outside This Weekend with These 5 Local Fitness Events

Get out of the house for a weekend full of bike rides, yoga poses, and kayak paddles on the lake.

By Michele Kettner July 27, 2021 at 1:45 pm

From bike rides to kayak paddles in the lake, there are plenty of ways to stay fit during the summer season. If you are looking to brave the heat this weekend, these are the fitness activities you should sign-up for.

Bird Walk

Saturday, 7-9 a.m.
Instead of a HIIT workout, enjoy a leisurely stroll through the woods. Grab your binoculars and head to the fields of the Clifton Institute for a 1 to 2 mile guided hike and bird walk for an up close look of all the local species that call NoVA home. The Clifton Institute: 6712 Blantyre Rd., Warrenton; free

Morning on Burke Lake

Saturday, 7-9 a.m.
Trade in your extra sleep for a stunning view of the sunrise on the lake. Head into a kayak for a paddle on the water as the birds and animals start to wake up and the park starts to come alive. Burke Lake Park: 7315 Ox Rd., Fairfax Station; $42

Pedal Purcellville

Saturday, 9 a.m.
Dust off your bike for a family-friendly ride in Purcellville. Enjoy the summer sun as you bike 1.8 miles around the streets of Purcellville. Plus, make sure to deck out your bike in all kinds of decorations for the chance to win the best decorated bike. 609 E. Main St., Purcellville; free

Yoga at Flying Ace!

Saturday, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
Yoga and beer go hand in hand at Flying Ace Farm. Set up your mat outside for an accessible yoga class with instructor Tiffany Coombs. After you stretch it out, cool off with a drink of your choice. Flying Ace Farm: 40950 Flying Ace Ln., Lovettsville; $25

Day of the Dog

Sunday, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
Yoga, puppies, and beer, oh my! Add “take a trip to Eavesdrop Brewery” to your Sunday to-do list to get in a quick yoga session. As you practice your vinyasas, the most adorable rescue puppies and dogs will be roaming the class for some play time. Eavesdrop Brewery: 7223 Centreville Rd., Yorkshire; $35
