Lower temps call for a weekend schedule full of yoga, hiking, and runs along the water.

By Michele Kettner June 8, 2021 at 12:38 pm

Get some relief from the hot and humid summer by taking your workout outdoors.  From yoga on the water to a hike among ancient plants, these are the fitness activities to join this weekend.

Twilight by Kayak

After a long week at work, let the stress melt away on the lake. The evening paddle allows you to watch the sunset on the water as the wildlife settles in for the night. Lake Fairfax Park: 1400 Lake Fairfax Dr., Reston; $42

2021 Lake Accotink 5k & 10k

Get in your morning run with a view of the lake. Break out the sunscreen and grab your running shoes for a 5k or 10k jog through the park. A virtual option is also available for those wanting to support Operation Enduring Warrior. Lake Accotink: 7500 Accotink Park Rd., Springfield; $13-$45

Ancient Plants Sketch Hike

Saturday, 10 a.m.
Did you know the forests of Huntley Meadows Park have plants that have been linked to the time of the dinosaurs? Well, you can join naturalist Margaret Wohler to learn about these different ferns and mosses as you walk the 1.5-mile trail and sketch these plants along the way. Huntley Meadows Park: 3701 Lockheed Blvd., Alexandria; $15

Summer Yoga

Saturday, 10 a.m.
This summer, spend some time working on your flexibility. Join the instructors of Salamander Resort for an all-levels vinyasa class to work out your strength, peace of mind, and flexibility. After you sweat it out, enjoy a summer cocktail as you ring in the summer solstice. Salamander Resort & Spa: 500 N. Pendleton St., Middleburg; $40

Goat Yoga at the Tiny House

Saturday & Sunday, times vary
Enjoy these refreshing weekend temps with some cuddly goats. Start off the class with gentle yoga poses, animal therapy, and meditation then end it with some extra goat time. Tiny House: Purcellville (address will be sent to ticket holders); $40

Twilight Yoga on the Dock

Sunday, 7:30-8:20 p.m.
Nothing is more relaxing than yoga by the water. Get out on the dock for a special power flow class held by New TrailCycling & Strength Studio. As you reconnect with your body, enjoy the sounds of the water as the sun sets over the horizon. Lake Anne Dock: Washington Plz. North, Reston; $22
