New fitness trail debuts at Dixon Park in Fredericksburg

After installing the final six stations earlier this year, the 0.56-mile asphalt path now has 10 fitness stations for visitors looking to stay active.

No monthly membership needed—Fredericksburg’s Dixon Park now has a fitness trail to get you moving and add a little extra pep to your step.

Local Eagle Scout candidate Ned Maurer proposed the idea, and raised enough money (plus a donation of concrete from Donnelly Concrete) to install an entire fitness kit, with 10 fitness stations around the 0.56-mile asphalt path at Dixon Park for park visitors to use, free of charge.

The stations offer interactive exercise equipment such as a balance walk, side bend, leg stretch, body raise, hamstring stretch and more. Each one has directions on how to use the equipment safely and effectively, using a person’s body weight for resistance and adding a little extra strength training to your typical walk.

Maurer coordinated the project with the city of Fredericksburg in 2017 and oversaw the installation of the first four stations in early 2018. The remaining six stations were installed by the city’s Park Maintenance Division earlier this year.

The park also offers other activity-focused areas, such as the playground, public swimming pool and public sports practice fields. The trail is also ADA accessible. // Dixon Park: 1300 Dixon St., Fredericksburg
