If carbs or chocolate are your vice, your New Year’s resolution may be to get in shape (again). When traditional fitness classes have you hitting the snooze button, opt for one of these exciting workouts that engage your mind and muscles in new ways.

Spark Aerial
Think P!nk’s 2014 Grammy performance. Spark Aerial involves getting into a U-shaped, aerial hammock made of soft fabric. Using your abdominal muscles and upper body, you’ll achieve a deep stretch,  fun inversions and graceful aerial sequences. // Spark Yoga:  2201 N. Pershing Drive, Arlington

OrangeTheory
Heart thumping music, orange up-lighting and an inspirational group setting make OrangeTheory feel almost more like a club than a fitness studio. The one-hour class features a heart-rate monitored, high-intensity workout designed to keep heart rate in the target zone that should spike your metabolism and increase energy for up to 36 hours after a class. // Multiple locations

Belly Dancing
Belly dancing engages the core muscles in ways traditional exercise and crunches can’t. Try Oriental or Tribal Fusion styles of belly dance with technique, fitness and stage performance courses available for all skill levels. // Multiple locations

Zengo Cycle
The lights are down and the music is thumping at Zengo Cycle, whose philosophy focuses on keeping energy and morale up. While your feet pedal a stationary bike, engage your core and upper-body by dancing to upbeat music. // Zengo Cycle: 2905 District Ave, Fairfax

Aqua Zumba
A low-impact, aqua dance class is perfect for all skill levels. Dance your way through encouraging Latin music with pool water providing natural resistance. // Onelife Fitness: 9250 Old Keene Mill Road, Burke
