When warmer weather arrives, it’s time to take to the outdoors to watch movies. Across Northern Virginia, you can see movies under the stars, popcorn in hand. Here are some options to try.
Rosslyn Cinema
Rosslyn Cinema is back for another summer. Fridays in June, the following movies will be screened on the lawn of Gateway Park: Jumanji (1995) on June 2, Shrek on June 9, Moana on June 16, and The Parent Trap on June 23. Beer and wine sales at the pop-up bar begin at 5 p.m., and food trucks will be available as well. Reston Station Summerbration
Saturdays from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Reston Station Metro Plaza, celebrate the warmer weather with Wild Summer: Movies and Events Under the Stars. Screenings begin with The Secret Life of Pets May 27 and end with September 2 and Dora and the Lost City of Gold. There are multiple events coinciding with movies throughout the summer, including seeing how service dogs are trained before a screening of Airbud on June 27, an animal adoption event before the double feature of Fievel Goes West and The Rescuers on August 5 and getting your photo taken with Moana before the movie on August 26. 1901 Reston Metro Plz., Reston, free
South Riding
Bring your blanket or chair to watch movies on select Tuesdays in South Riding. Movies start at 8 p.m. at either the Town Green or the SRC Stage. Starlight Cinema
Starlight Drive-In Cinema is back for another season. The movies are shown on Saturday evenings in August. There are children’s shows from local performers like magician The Great Zucchini and juggler and puppeteer Geoff Marsh before each of the movies. This year’s lineup includes Minions: The Rise of Gru on August 5, Lightyear on August 12, The Bad Guys on August 19, and DC League of Super-Pets on August 26.
