Here’s When You Can Expect the Fall Foliage to Peak in NoVA

As you start planning your festivities for the autumn season, make sure to mark your calendar for peak fall colors in your neighborhood.

October is here and fall is in full swing around NoVA. You’ve probably already noticed a few of your trees starting to transition to their beautiful autumn colors. If you are itching to catch the stunning peak fall foliage views, we are just a few short weeks from the region being covered with fiery yellows, oranges, and reds.

This year, the Virginia Department of Forestry predicts peak bloom across the state will range between October 10 to 31. The most recent report shows the peak colors hitting the region between October 15 and 25 this year, with expectations for “big changes in the next two weeks, especially in mountain areas.”

This week-to-week map narrows the peak window down even further, predicting Northern Virginians can expect to see the brightest colors around October 18. The three-week window across the state will allow you and your family to get in all of your fun fall festivities with a beautiful backdrop for all of your Instagram photos.

If you truly want to get the most out of the peak foliage, consider planning a hike or bike ride on one of these beautiful tree-covered trails or setting out a picnic basket lunch at one of these local parks.

Those willing to drive across the Potomac River to Maryland or Washington, DC, will be able to enjoy peak bloom around October 25.
