Drive-ins have made a comeback amid the coronavirus pandemic, spreading across the region. The latest addition? Alexandria. Announced today, Aug. 12, two Alexandria businesses are partnering together to bring the big screen to Eisenhower Corridor, starting Saturday, Aug. 29.
The Alexandria Drive-In Theatre is being presented by ALX Community and The Garden, and will feature six movies running on Saturdays through Saturday, Oct. 3. The showings will include a mix of movie classics and family favorites.
Located in the Eisenhower section of Alexandria in the parking lot connected to commercial space owned by real estate developer Stonebridge, the lot can accommodate up to 215 cars per screening.

Movies being shown are Jurassic Park (Saturday, Aug. 29), Back to the Future (Saturday, Sept. 5), Trolls (Saturday, Sept. 12), Field of Dreams (Saturday, Sept. 19), ET (Saturday, Sept. 26) and Mamma Mia! (Saturday, Oct. 3).
Food trucks will also be on-site and organizers have partnered with Curbside Kitchen, which will provide a rotating selection of sweet and savory food truck cuisine from local truckers, including The Chewish Deli, Gemma Gelato, Capital Chicken & Waffles and Bangkok. Food can be ordered on mobile phones and movie-goers can also bring their own food.
Masks are required at check in and whenever patrons are outside their vehicles. Each vehicle will receive a garbage bag for guests to bin their own trash and to carry out post-screening. Gates open at 7:30 p.m. and movies start at 8:30 p.m. for each viewing. All proceeds from the movie series will benefit charities ACT for Alexandria and Athena Rapid Response.
