The weekend of June 8 and 9, Washington, DC, will host some of the largest Pride events in the DMV region, dating back to 1975. For those planning to head into the city for the Capital Pride Parade, the Capital Pride Festival and Concert, or any of the other fun events, here’s what you can expect.
This year, the celebration’s theme is “Totally Radical,” which pays homage to the era of LGBTQ+ activism during the 1980s and 1990s.
“It’s about embracing our authenticity, pushing boundaries, and advocating for a world where everyone can live their truth without fear or discrimination,” said Capital Pride Alliance Executive Director Ryan Bos.
Capital Pride Parade
June 8
One of the most recognizable traditions of Pride is the parade, and DC pulls out all the stops. This year, the parade takes a new route, beginning at 1844 14th St. NW and moving south to end at 919 Pennsylvania Ave. NW. It begins at 3 p.m. and runs until about 8 p.m.
Though the parade will no longer run through Dupont Circle, there’s a block party the same day on 17th Street. There is also a kid-friendly Family Zone located at Stead Park with activities like crafts, cooking demonstrations, and a drag story time.
Capital Pride Festival and Concert
June 9
The Capital Pride Festival and Concert will fill Pennsylvania Avenue with exhibitors, food, and music. There will over 300 businesses, artists, social groups, and others on site from 12 to 7 p.m. You’ll be able to grab a bite to eat or a drink at multiple food and beverage gardens.
The Pride Concert will provide free musical entertainment throughout the day, including area musicians, DJs, and some big names in music.
The acts you won’t want to miss will be at Capitol Stage from 1 to 8 p.m., followed by a dance party until 10 p.m. This year’s lineup includes pop singer Ava Max, Billy Porter, Exposé, Sapphira Cristál, and Keke Palmer.
Additional performances take place from 12 to 7 p.m. at the Monument Festival Stage within the Monument Beverage Garden and Food Court, and at the Dupont Dance Stage in the Dupont Beverage Garden.
Other Events
