6 Fun Events to Celebrate Star Wars Day in NoVA

Embrace your inner Jedi at these Force-filled events in Northern Virginia.

“A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…” began a franchise that, 47 years later, continues to inspire. On May 4, otherwise known as Star Wars Day, celebrate the legendary saga with these Northern Virginia events, including fireworks displays, trivia contests, and LEGO building activities. Plan to dress as your favorite character and let the Force guide you to fun over the weekend of May 3–5. 

Star Wars Weekend 

May 3–5 

Nationals Park transforms into the ultimate Star Wars destination with three days of cosmic fun as the Nats take on the Blue Jays. Enjoy a fireworks display on Friday, collect a limited-edition X-Wing pilot bobblehead on Saturday, and there’s a beanie giveaway on Sunday. Plus, there will be caricaturists, face painters, and Star Wars–themed photo booths. Feel free to come in your favorite Star Wars attire but realize props that look like weapons are not allowed. 1500 S. Capitol St. SE, Washington, DC, starting at $16 

Run, Walk or Roll the Greenway 

May 4, 8 a.m.–noon 

Lace up for the 4th Annual Run The Greenway, featuring races for all ages including a 5K, 10K, and a Kids 1-Mile Fun Run. This year’s Star Wars theme adds an exciting twist along with live music, food, face painting, and the chance to snap photos with 15 Star Wars characters. 43751 Central Station Dr., Ashburn, $50–$65, $25 for kids fun run, free for children ages 4 and under 

Star Wars Day and LEGO Build Event 

May 4, 11 a.m.  

Costumes are encouraged at this May the fourth be with you event at Barnes & Noble. Local authors Anna Patrick, J.A. Barrios, and Salinee Goldenberg will be present to sign books, while kids can enjoy story time, games, and LEGO building. Drop by early or call to secure a spot for one of the LEGO sessions at 2 and 5 p.m. 12193 Fair Lakes Promenade Dr., Fairfax, free 

May the Fourth Star Wars Party 

May 4, 3–7 p.m. 

Embrace the force at this Star Wars-themed party, complete with live music, trivia, and games. Yes, you should dress up. Kids will love the magic art bus, where they can create Star Wars–inspired artwork. Adults can have some Lightsaber Lager and food from Natural Red Catering’s food truck. Fair Winds Brewing Company: 7000 Newington Rd. Ste. K & L, Lorton, free, $25 per hour for art bus crafting 

Star Wars Trivia 

May 4, 5–6:45 p.m. 

Test your Jedi wits at this Star Wars–themed trivia contest at Mustang Sally Brewing Company. Don your best galactic attire, form alliances, and answer questions that could slash up to 20 percent off your team’s tab if you win. 14140 Parke Long Ct., Ste. A, B & C, Chantilly, free 

Star Wars Night and Post-Match Fireworks 

May 4, 6:45 p.m. 

Join Loudoun United FC for a Star Wars Day celebration featuring a thrilling soccer match against Detroit City FC followed by fireworks. The festivities start early with face painting, games, and music. After the match, kids are welcome to take to the field and to gather autographs from the team.
