Summer 2023 Blockbusters and Where to Watch Them in NoVA

The summer movie season is here, and NoVA theaters offer some fun options for seeing these blockbusters.

Hollywood has started to release big summer blockbusters again.  Here are five film options and the NoVA movie theaters where you can see them.

Family Drive-In

What better place to take your little ones to see the live-action version of The Little Mermaid than a drive-in? The extra space allows them to dance along to the songs, including the new ones. The drive-in has lots of snacks, and just like Ariel’s sidekicks, Sebastian and Flounder, well-behaved, leashed pets are allowed. 5890 Valley Pk., Stephens City

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema

Disney and Pixar are back for another summer blockbuster with Elemental, a city where elements like fire, water, and air live together and eventually discover how much they have in common. The film comes out June 16, and there is limited availability. Alamo Drafthouse Cinema in Ashburn and Woodbridge are great venues to watch this family-friendly movie.  20575 Easthampton Plz., Ashburn and 15200 Potomac Town Place, Ste. 100, Woodbridge

AMC Tysons Corner 16

Get your friends together for some shopping at Tysons Corner Center and end the day donning your Barbie pink best at AMC Tysons Corner 16. The theater is reserved seating and you can order your snacks ahead of time so you have the chance to reminisce about your Barbie Corvettes, campers, and outfits that stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling don as Barbie and Ken. 7850-E Tysons Corner Ctr., McLean

Angelika at Mosaic in Fairfax

If you’re keeping up on summer movie pop culture, there’s been an ongoing friendly competition between the light and fun Barbie and the more serious Oppenheimer. The elegant Angelika is the ideal place to see Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, about the man who oversaw the project that developed the atomic bomb. The film will be released July 21. Angelika at Mosaic sells craft beer, wine and cocktails and has an elevated food and concession menu with plush velour stadium seating. 2911 District Ave., Fairfax

Cinema Arts Theatre

Round out your summer blockbusters with the August release of Gran Turismo. The movie, to be released August 11, is based on the true story about Jann Mardenborough whose skills on PlayStation led him to a professional racing career. Kick back and watch the action on the big screen with a bucket of popcorn at this independently owned movie theater at Fairfax City Mall. 9650 Unit 14 Main St., Fairfax
