The Outdoor Ice Rinks in NoVA That Make for a Lovely Winter Skating Experience

Dust off your skates and pack on the layers for a twirl around these magical winter wonderlands.

With winter in full swing across NoVA, we might as well take advantage of these chilly days with some seasonal fun. Instead of heading indoors for a skating session, bundle up and make your way to these local outdoor rinks for a twirl around the ice.

Pentagon Row Outdoor Ice Skating

You’ll want to take a spin around the largest outdoor rink in Northern Virginia before the end of the season. With over 6,800 square feet of ice, the rink offers youth, adult, and private skating lessons in addition to the public skate sessions. If you’re looking to take a hot chocolate break, snuggle up by the dual-sided stone fireplace and warm up on these chilly winter nights. Reservations are required to skate. 1201 S. Joyce St., Arlington; $10-$11; $5 for skate rentals

Reston Town Center Pavilion

Enjoy a picture-perfect skate under the lights at Reston Town Center. Every winter, the pavilion adds a layer of ice for instant winter fun. Guests will need to reserve their tickets in advance to participate in the public skating hours. 1818 Discovery St., Reston; $9-$10; $7 for skate rentals

Harris Pavilion

Open five days a week, weather-permitting, the Manassas ice sheet will provide endless hours of fun. Also, we don’t encourage playing hooky, but every Wednesday is free skating day at the Pavilion, so make sure to book your tickets early. Advanced registration is encouraged. 9201 Center St., Manassas; $8-$9; $6 for skate rentals

Ice & Lights–The Winter Village at Cameron Run

The light displays may be stored away until the next holiday season, but the ice skating is still in session. Every Saturday and Sunday through February, figure skating enthusiasts can lace up their skates for an hour-long ice session. All guests must purchase their tickets online. 4001 Eisenhower Ave., Alexandria; $14.07 (includes skate rentals)

Ice Skating at Stonebridge Potomac Town Center

Take a break from all of the shopping and hit the ice. Located next to the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, the outdoor rink welcomes skaters on a daily basis through the end of February. 15201 Potomac Town Pl., Ste. 180, Woodbridge; $9-$10; $6 for skate rentals

The Sculpture Garden Ice Rink

After a COVID-hiatus in 2020, the beloved rink at the National Gallery of Art is running once again. Open throughout the week (11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday), guests can always find a way to fit a quick skating session into their daily schedule. Once the skates come off, make sure to visit the Pavilion Cafe for freshly made soups, sandwiches, desserts, seasonal drinks, and more. 7th St. and Constitution Ave. NW, Washington, DC; $9-$10; $5 for skate rentals
