These Decked Out Northern Virginia Streets Are Mini Holiday Wonderlands

Your very own winter wonderland is just a short drive away thanks to these local cities.

By Michele Kettner December 3, 2021 at 5:19 pm

Updated December 15, 2022. If you are a fan of classic Christmas décor, Northern Virginia is the place to be. While we’re now used to light displays that are meant to wow guests with tons of twinkling, these main street decorations take you back in time and make you feel nostalgic about holidays past.

Del Ray Window Murals

The residents and businesses of Del Ray have made it their mission to make the streets of the neighborhood feel like a Christmas movie. As you roam the sidewalks, make it a point to window shop to catch a glimpse of these incredible works of art. From Christmas carolers to winter landscapes, and everything in between, these designs will definitely get you in the holiday spirit.

Historic Downtown Leesburg

If you’re looking for a classic holiday display, make your way into Loudoun County. At night, the historic district turns into a scene from a postcard with holiday lights decorating the local shops, red bows on the streetlamps, and a beautiful tree and menorah lighting the lawn of the courthouse.

King Street’s Mile of Lights

The only thing that can make historic Old Town Alexandria any prettier is the twinkling shine of Christmas lights. As you shop for special gifts for your loved ones, take in the view of the beautifully lit trees and the storefront decorations at O’Connell’s, Red Barn Mercantile, and more.

Washington Street in Middleburg

Every year this quaint town turns into a magical winter wonderland. In addition to its annual holiday parade and holiday celebration, the streets of Middleburg get decked out in bright lights, festive wreaths and garland, and, of course, the perfect Christmas tree.
