Town of Occoquan launches new Discover Occoquan event

The weeklong affair will take place both in person and virtually, featuring sales, workshops and demonstrations from local craftsmen, makers and business owners.

From Monday, Aug. 17 through Sunday, Aug. 23, Northern Virginians should consider flocking to Occoquan (or the city’s online site!) for a week full of shopping, learning and fun for the entire family, courtesy of the inaugural Discover Occoquan event.

The new event celebrating the town of Occoquan will feature a combination of virtual demonstrations, workshops and in-person activities in an effort to show visitors “all that Occoquan has to offer,” according to Occoquan Event Director Julie Little. All week, interested participants can join in on everything from a virtual candle-making class with Gift & Gather to an in-person wine tasting at dining site The Spot on Mill Street. Other featured events include yoga classes, watercolor demonstrations, livestreamed fashion shows and a live antiquing event, all of which are hosted by town businesses.

Then, to close out the week of entertainment, the town will host a social-distanced screening of The Princess Bride in River Mill Park on the evening of Saturday, Aug. 22.

According to a recent press release, each activity is being planned with contingencies in mind as the coronavirus pandemic continues to pose a threat. Should you feel more safe participating in the fun from home, that is an option too. For a full schedule of events, click here.
