Virtually travel to over 2,500 museums from the safety of your home

Museums across the region have closed until further notice due to the coronavirus. But that doesn’t mean you can’t get your cultural fix in from your couch.

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, Northern Virginians are practicing social distancing and working from home. It’s what’s necessary right now, but it admittedly can get pretty boring after a while.

Looking for at-home entertainment? Google Arts & Culture has partnered with over 2,500 museums and galleries to feature art collections through online exhibits and “street views” that let users explore the spaces for free.

Featured destinations include DC’s National Gallery of Art, The Phillips Collection, Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery, National Museum of Women in the Arts and 28 other local museums and galleries.

Other world-renowned galleries and museums included in the partnership are New York City’s MoMA; Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum; St. Petersburg’s The State Hermitage Museum; Mexico’s Museo Dolores Olmedo; Madrid’s Sorolla Museum; and London’s The National Gallery.

Google Arts & Culture has even created its own top 10 list of museums it recommends virtually exploring. For more information, visit artsandculture.google.com.
