The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
Synetic Theater, July 11-Aug. 12
For the premiere production of the its New Voice Series, Synetic has gathered local drama aficionados, tasked with creating an innovative adaptation of the best-loved story about a girl who is swept into an alternate world.

Footloose
City of Fairfax Theatre Company, July 20-28
However inadvertently, NoVA performance venues have made it a snap this summer to craft a Kevin Bacon-themed weekend. First, watch the musical whose 1984 film version made the ubiquitous actor a star, and then head over to the Birchmere (see our summer concert listing) to see him in person.

Barnum
Prince William Little Theatre, July 20-29
Before Glenn Close played Cruella de Vil, even before she wept from a shower in The Big Chill, she took on the role of P.T. Barnum’s wife in this 1980 musical about the circus legend’s life.

Jesus Christ Superstar
The Little Theatre of Alexandria, July 21-Aug. 11
Recently broadcast as a live NBC special starring John Legend, Jesus Christ Superstar tells the story of Jesus’ final days through the music and lyrics of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice.

A Chorus Line
Riverside Center for the Performing Arts, July 25-Sept. 16
Marvin Hamlisch—one of just two people to win a Tony, Emmy, Oscar, Grammy and Pulitzer Prize—composed the music for this successful 1975 musical, which presents the personal struggles of several Broadway dancers.
