Those Shoes were Made for Dancing

Valentine’s Day is coming up, and this weekend could provide critical time to warm up for romantic gestures.

Valentine’s Day is coming up, and this weekend could provide critical time to warm up for romantic gestures. This Saturday there are two dances to try out. One is for swinging your partner around the dance floor and the other is about entertaining your children. If you think gliding over the ice next to those you hold dear is the way to go, we here at Northern Virginia Magazine have you covered.

Animal Sweethearts Dance

Saturday morning from 10 a.m. to noon,  Hidden Ponds Nature Center  will be hosting one of its most popular Valentine’s events, the Animal Sweethearts Dance.  Children ages 3 to 9 can enjoy the debut of an original short comedy, The Hound of Music. Last year’s performance of Pest Side Story will be a tough act to follow, but somehow they’ll see it done. After the play, the children will dance, make crafts and interact with live animals (after parental approval of course). Refreshments will be provided. With only 11 spots left, spaces are limited.

Swing Dance and Lessons

Dance the night away  to the sounds of The Grandsons as they perform at the Stacy C. Sherwood Community Center. Starting at 8 p.m. continuing until 11 p.m., a full night of Charlestons, Lindyhopping and maybe some East Coast Swing are in store. If you don’t know how to swing, America’s largest swing dance instructors, Gottaswing will be providing free swing dance lessons from 7:30 p.m. until the start of the dance. Admission is $15.
