Calling all Chocolate Lovers

Everybody needs a little chocolate every once in a while. Get as much chocolate as you want at the Chocolate Lovers Festival this weekend.

Everybody needs a little chocolate every once in a while. Get as much chocolate as you want at the Chocolate Lovers Festival this weekend.

The Chocolate Lovers Festival began in 1992. It was originally created to bring people to the City of Fairfax, sponsor community service and raise cooperation among the city government. It’s an annual two-day tradition that holds on to “Love of Chocolate” as its theme.

From Jan. 31 – Feb. 2 , the festival holds a bunch of great events for everyone to enjoy. Here are some cool events to check out:

Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast and Bake Sale

Feb 1, 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. Enjoy chocolate chip pancakes and sausage with the Kiwanis Club at the Chocolate Lovers Pancake Breakfast. A variety of breakfast drinks and regular pancakes will also be served. $6 for adults, $4 for children ages 4-10, age 3 and younger eat for free. Fire Station 3, 4081 University Dr.

Chocolate Challenge

Feb. 1-2, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. This event will showcase art, cakes and cupcakes made entirely of chocolate. Amateurs and professionals are welcome and will face off to see whose chocolate creation comes out on top. Judges include Sabrina Campbell of Ocassionally Cake, George Mason University College of Health and Human Services Dean Thomas Prohaska and wife Beth Prohaska and Councilman Jefferey Greenfield. Donated cakes and other items will be up for bidding. The Nutrition Kitchen, 3950 University Dr.

Taste of Chocolate

Feb 1, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Engulf yourself with an array of chocolate ready to tantalize your taste buds.  You can purchase items ranging from cakes and brownies to candies and ice cream. Old Town Hall, 3999 University Drive.

Chocolate Movie Night

Feb 1, 7-9 p.m. The newest event of the Chocoalate Festival. Enjoy the showing of Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. A Golden ticket is recieved by everyone who enters to see the film. That ticket will also be used to draw winners for door prizes. Stacy C. Sherwood Community Center, 3740 Old Lee Highway.
