The Metropolitan School of the Arts‘ Alexandria campus is hosting Tim Federle on Feb. 5 for a workshop entitled “Tips & Tricks to Nail a Broadway Dance Audition.” The workshop will be held for middle and high school students with backgrounds in advanced dance, theatre or music from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at $50 per person. The workshop will teach a fast and fun routine to a pop song, and afterwards will give insider tips on standing out in auditions, both on and off Broadway.

At age 30 and after working some Broadway shows, most notably “The Little Mermaid,” Federle became an associate choreographer for the show, “Billy Elliot.” Being on the choreography team, Federle would continually travel across the country looking for replacements for the titular star as the Billys grew up. Being in this position, Federle saw countless auditions and learned what worked, and most importantly, what didn’t.

Federle is also an accomplished writer, having just written one of Amazon’s Best Books of January 2014, “Five, Six, Seven, Nate.” He will be holding a book signing immediately following the workshop. Copies of the book be available for purchase at the studio provided by Hooray For Books of Alexandria. This is a sequel to his inaugural book, “Better Nate Than Ever.”

The Metropolitan School of The Arts has taught more than 10,000 students at their studios in Alexandria and Lorton since 2001.
