Section of W&OD Trail Closes Temporarily for Safety Repairs

Bikers and pedestrians, be aware of these changes on the popular trail.

A half-mile portion of the Washington & Old Dominion (W&OD) Trail in Ashburn is closing temporarily for crews to complete “critical safety repairs” on Broad Run Bridge. The closure will run through approximately mid-April.

Specifically, the trail will be closed between Pacific Boulevard and Loudoun County Parkway in Ashburn. There will be no detour route.

A recent safety inspection of the bridge revealed that boards were loose and “potentially hazardous to trail users,” an alert from NOVA Parks said. The organization will conduct bridge resurfacing over the next six weeks, and the trail should reopen “ahead of the trail’s busy spring season.”

There will be several options for people to park on either side of the closed section. For those east of the closure, there is the Pacific Boulevard parking lot at 21695 Pacific Blvd., Ashburn.

For those west of the closure, there is parking at these locations:

  • Hampshire Park/Smith Switch parking lot: 21315 Smith Switch Rd., Ashburn
  • Parking lot across from Carolina Brothers Pit Barbecue: 20694 Ashburn Rd., Ashburn
  • Jackpit Lane parking lot: 42998 Jackpit Lane, Ashburn
