Oh Snow! The Storm Caused Some Problems Around Northern Virginia

Snow and sleet caused slippery driving conditions in the area.

By Debbie Williams January 26, 2026 at 10:29 am

The Northern Virginia area is still shoveling out from a major weekend snowstorm. The region was hit with between 6 and 9 inches of accumulation, according to the National Weather Service. That snow and sleet mix caused some problems around the area.

Tennis Bubble Trouble

A tennis bubble at Ida Lee Park in Leesburg collapsed Sunday. The Town of Leesburg said that no one was inside the bubble when it happened. Officials say the storm may have caused a tear in the plastic membrane that allowed air to escape from the pressurized structure. The tennis center is closed on Monday.

Overturned Snowplow

The southbound lanes of South Van Dorn Street at Eisenhower Avenue in Alexandria were closed Sunday after a plow truck overturned, WUSA9 reported. Power crews were also called to the scene because the truck took down a powerline when it crashed. No injuries were reported, and the exact cause of the crash is under investigation.

Truck Hits Home

A truck slammed into a home at the intersection of South Glebe Road and Walter Reed Drive Sunday morning, DC News Now reported. The Arlington County Fire Department responded to the incident on Sunday and said the vehicle slid off the roadway and struck the home. Portions of northbound South Glebe Road were closed while the truck was removed. No injuries were reported.
