On Sunday, June 1, eight people were injured at a Boulder, Colorado, pedestrian mall when a man threw an incendiary device into a crowd. The attack occurred as members of the group Run for Their Lives were concluding a demonstration to raise visibility for hostages who remain in Gaza.
Fairfax County’s Police Department posted on X in response to the attack. “Following today’s targeted attack in Boulder, the FCPD extends our deepest condolences to the Jewish community. There are no specific threats to our community at this time. However, the safety of our faith-based institutions continue to be paramount. We are enhancing our patrols and visibility throughout the county around our synagogues and all places of worship, ensuring a strong, supportive presence.”
The suspect in the Boulder attack has been identified as Mohamed Sabry Soliman, 45. He reportedly yelled “Free Palestine” as he threw the device into the crowd. Soliman was booked into the Boulder County jail, and the FBI is investigating the incident as a terrorist act, the Associated Press reported.
Last week, another man yelled “Free Palestine” before fatally shooting two Israeli embassy staffers outside of the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, DC. Elias Rodriguez, 31, was arrested and has been charged with murder of foreign officials, causing the death of a person through the use of a firearm, discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence, and two counts of first-degree murder.
