Renters know what they pay every month takes a bite out of their income, and Arlington and Tysons renters shell out the most in NoVA and the Washington, DC, metropolitan area.
In October, Arlington’s overall median rent stood at $2,630 per month, according to Apartment List, which tracks 33 areas in the DC region. The median rent in Arlington was $2,476 for a one-bedroom unit and $2,992 for a two-bedroom, the Apartment List October 2024 Rent Report found.
Rent in Arlington is the nation’s fifth most expensive for what the report considers cities. Prices went up 4.6 percent year over year and are 19.7 percent higher than the rest of the metro area.
The 4.6 percent rent increases Arlington saw are slightly higher than the statewide average of 4.4 percent.
What Are Renters Paying in Tysons?
Tysons rents are 20.9 percent greater than the rest of the DC region.
In Tysons, the overall median monthly rent in October was $2,654, up 2.5 percent from the previous year. The median rent in Tysons stood at $2,414 for a one-bedroom and $2,894 for a two-bedroom.
“Nine months into the year, rents in Tysons Corner have risen 6.1 percent. This is a faster rate of growth compared to what the city was experiencing at this point last year: From January to September 2023, rents had increased 3.2 percent,” the October report said.
Rents in Leesburg are the fastest growing at 10.7 percent annually, while Centreville is right behind Leesburg with a year-over-year rent growth at 10 percent. The October rent report said the median rent in Leesburg was $1,741 for a one-bedroom unit and $2,053 for a two-bedroom, while the median prices in Centreville were $2,076 and $2,411 for one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments, respectively.
