Fairfax Approves City Centre West, a Mixed-Use Development in Old Town Fairfax

Ox Hill Companies will build a seven-story development that will contain condos, restaurant and retail space, and a drive-thru bank.

A seven-story mixed-use development with condos, retail spaces, and a drive-thru bank will join the landscape of Old Town Fairfax. The project, called City Centre West, proposed by Fairfax-based commercial developers Ox Hill Companies, received approval from the Fairfax City Council Tuesday.

Ox Hill said it expects to break ground on the project by March 2024 and complete it by spring 2026.

The 210,029-square-foot development will have 79 condominiums and penthouses, 8,500 square feet of medical offices, and 28,200 square feet of commercial space, plus a drive-thru bank, ground-floor retail and restaurants, and a park that will be called Corner Public Plaza Park.  The condos will be one-, two-, and three-bedroom units with terraces. Starting prices have yet to be determined.

The site will encompass 1.78 acres at 10501 Main St., near the Fairfax County courthouse. It will replace the vacant Wells Fargo Bank at the same address, the former Oud Resto and Hall restaurant at 10515 Main St., and an office building at 10523 Main St.

Thomas Juul-Hansen, a well-known New York City–based designer, will partner with Ox Hill Companies to design the development’s architecture, interior design, and furniture. The exterior will have a “sleek and modern look” with linear Roman brick, according to a news release from Ox Hill Companies.

“We believe that architecture should be a harmonious dialogue between the past and the present. In the design of City Centre West, we selected quality materials that pay homage to the historic architecture, especially the use of brick,” said Juul-Hansen.

This will be the first brick building that Juul-Hansen has designed, calling it “an exciting challenge.” He is known for his residential and restaurant projects. “The new building will coexist seamlessly with structures that have stood for two centuries, such as Fairfax’s federal buildings,” he said.

The Legato Group at Douglas Elliman will lead sales for the residential spaces, marking Douglas Elliman’s first development project in the greater DC market, according to Ox Hill.

In May, Ox Hill also submitted a proposal for a 2,700-seat concert hall and seven-story hotel in Old Town.
