A Florida man remains in custody after Fairfax County police say he had an AK-47 in his vehicle and told officers he was headed to CIA headquarters.
Fairfax County police said they charged Eric M. Sandow, 32, of Gainesville, Florida, with felony possession of a firearm on school property.
The police said they were called after Sandow came to the preschool and asked to use the bathroom at around 11 a.m. but was denied access to the building, The Associated Press reported.
The school is about a mile from the CIA.
“This did happen on school grounds, which as a mother, I would be very concerned, especially if my child attended that preschool. We do want to reassure our community that this man did not make any threats,” Sgt. Tara Gerhard told NBC4.
The police tweeted a photo of the two firearms, an AK-47 and a handgun, that they say they found in Sandow’s vehicle after executing a search warrant. The photo also showed a cache of ammunition.

Sandow appeared in Fairfax County General District Court Wednesday. His next appearance for a bond hearing is set for Thursday morning, and a preliminary hearing is set for July 24.
