Government seeks property in NoVA for immigrant facility; Slug lines in Springfield see changes

Northern Virginia’s daily dose of local and national news for Wednesday, Aug. 7.

Northern Virginia may be home to a new permanent shelter used to house unaccompanied immigrant minors. The General Services Administration is seeking 110,000 square feet of space for as long as 15 years, located in Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun or Prince William counties. Slug lines will be relocating in Springfield during a multi-year construction project on what is now the Old Keene Mill park-and-ride lot. Fairfax County has signed several agreements that will temporarily allow slug-lining commuters to park at Springfield United Methodist Church and Springfield Town Center. (WTOP)

Army paratroopers are set to jump from the sky on Thursday, Aug. 8, at Stafford Regional Airport. As part of the 82nd Airborne Association’s 73rd annual convention in Washington, DC, members of the team will skydive at 11 a.m. The event is open to the public and WWII veterans will be in attendance.
