Today marks the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission that took three men to space on July 16, 1969 to become the first to walk on the moon. At the time of the launch, Wernher von Braun was the director of NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center. He was later laid to rest in Alexandria. Find upcoming honorary events here. (WTOP)

According to the latest weather forecast, this week could be the hottest yet in 2019. Temperature highs are in the mid-90s, but the heat index or “feels like,” temperatures could reach up to 110 degrees by Friday. (WUSA9)

Flooded and damaged roads from last week’s flash flooding continue to reopen across the DMV, with the latest being Canal Road between Reservoir and Foxhall roads. VDOT has continued accessing damage and believes Prosperity Avenue south of Accotink Creek should be open by late Friday, and other roads may take weeks to repair. (WTOP)

Chuck Kuhn, owner of JK Moving Services, has decided to establish the JK Black Oak Wildlife Sanctuary after setting aside roughly 87 acres near Lucketts for a conservation easement, protecting it from being developed further and offering its ownership to the Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy.
