Muslim youth group picks up trash on National Mall; Gov. Northam proposes gun reform

Members of the Muslim youth group Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, including a number from Northern Virginia, volunteered their time over the weekend to help empty trash cans and clean up litter on the National Mall as a result of the government shutdown stopping trash collection at national park sites.

Gov. Ralph Northam revealed a package of gun-safety bills that he plans to introduce to the General Assembly when they convene on Wednesday, Jan. 9. Some of the legislation calls for a ban on assault firearms, universal background checks, reinstating Virginia’s one-handgun-a-month law and more.

Plans for what will replace the soon-to-close Macy’s at Tysons Galleria are being revealed, as a Fairfax County staff report indicated that the 260,000-square-foot retail space will become the home to multiple stores, including an iPic movie theater.
