February is shaping up to be a good month for local author Sherryl Woods.
Yesterday, we posted a Q&A with the New York Times Best-Selling author, where we asked her all about the writing process. According to a recent press release, her publisher, Harlequin MIRA has come to an agreement with the Hallmark Channel and Woods to develop her Chesapeake Shores novels into a prime-time series launching in 2015.
“It is an absolute thrill to be working on this project with the Hallmark Channel and with a team that respects the books as much as they do,” said Woods in a press release. “It’s the perfect match for me and, most especially, for Chesapeake Shores.”
With more than 100 books published, Woods is still gaining momentum, her books appearing on the New York Times bestsellers list six different times in 2013. A contract for two more Chesapeake Shores novels was just brokered for 2015 that will release alongside the television release.
Chesapeake Shores began with “The Inn at Eagle Point,” a novel which featured the estranged O’Brien Clan, the founding family of a town off the Chesapeake Bay. The television series will focus on what happens when this torn family reunites after years of isolation from each other.
This will not be the first Harlequin MIRA book series to be adopted by the Hallmark Chanel. Viewers can watch Cedar Cove, starring Golden Globe-nominated actress Andie MacDowell.
“After spending more than ten years reporting on the television industry at the beginning of my career,” said Woods. ” I feel as if my life has come full circle. I hope fans of the series are as excited about it as I am.”
