6 outdoor fitness classes to join over Memorial Day weekend

The three-day weekend allows for ample time to complete 5ks, yoga classes, and a kayak tour.

With Memorial Day weekend coming up, make sure to squeeze in a workout between your celebrations. From 5Ks to relaxing yoga classes, these six outdoor fitness classes will keep you active during the holiday weekend.

Memorial Day Weekend 5k

Saturday, 8:30 a.m.
Lace up those sneakers for a countryside run. Enjoy the scenic views surrounding the Salamander Resort as you trek 3.1 miles in the complimentary fun run before the holiday. // Salamander Resort & Spa: 500 N. Pendleton St., Middleburg; free

Yoga 101

Saturday, 9-10 a.m.
Looking for a way to shake off that pandemic stress? Then try out a beginners’ yoga class. This one on the Carlyle House Magnolia Terrace introduces you to the practice, necessary equipment, and basic poses to try at home. // Carlyle House Historic Park: 121 N. Fairfax St., Alexandria; $10

YogaSix Burke: Saturday Outdoor Classes!

Saturday, 10 a.m.
Pack up your mat for a morning of yoga under the sun. Head to the park for this summer outdoor class series to get in your vinyasas to start the day off right. // 5765 Burke Centre Pkwy., Burke; free

Yoga in the Vines

Sunday, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.
Nothing goes together better than wine and yoga. The hourlong class features both yoga poses and meditation practice along the fresh vines.  Once the yoga session is complete, all guests will be treated to a free tasting to continue their stress-free afternoon. // Three Fox Vineyards: 10100 Three Fox Ln., Delaplane; $30

A Salute to Our Troops

Monday, 8 a.m.
This Memorial Day, honor those who have served with a celebratory run. Runners can choose to sign up for the 5K, 10K, or 1K fun run. The event space will also include family activities, race shirts, delicious food, and fun prizes for both kids and adult runners. Sunset Kayak Paddle

Monday, 6:30-9 p.m.
Close out your Memorial Day festivities with a relaxing paddle on the water. Get out on the Occoquan Reservoir just as the sun starts to set to take in the beautiful scene and historical features of the area. // Fountainhead Regional Park: 10875 Hampton Rd., Fairfax Station; $35
