What started in 2004 as a small bocce league for mere recreation has since ballooned into Major League Bocce, a “full-on business” with leagues in Philadelphia, Boston, Dallas and several other cities. The Italian ball game is easy to learn, requires little equipment and no uniform and is usually accompanied by an alcoholic beverage and the tranquility of the outdoors. Sarah DeLucas, D.C. Bocce League founder, says the sport is popular with millennials in the area because people want a “social outlet, a way to get outside after work in a way that’s casual and engaging.”
