Captain Catoctin’s Crabs & Concoctions shutters in Leesburg, makes way for Falala Christmas Pop-Up Bar

Though it’s not even Thanksgiving, get ready for drunk Santa.

Nils Schnibbe and Dave Miller have closed the Leesburg location of Captain Catoctin’s Crabs & Concoctions. The short-lived seafood restaurant opened this July and dissolved this week, with Sunday its last day in operation.

“It’s just not going to work in that location,” says Schnibbe, the partner keeping the space. According to Schnibbe, Miller is keeping the brand and is hoping to relocate.

On Nov. 20, Schibbe will turn Captain Catoctin’s into Falala Christmas Pop-Up Bar.

The bar will feature its own spin on the advent calendar, with different events every night counting down to Christmas. Schnibbe ticks off a night of drinking with Santa, an ugly sweater party, a Christmas carol night and one night as an homage to A Bad Moms Christmas, where, says Schnibbe, “only the bad moms can come out.”

The drinks reflect the season with mulled wine, spiked hot chocolates, spiked cider, specialty cocktails, and for food: sausages, big pretzels, goulash, candied pecans, candied apples, funnel cakes and other fare inspired by Germany’s Christmas markets.

The pop-up will end with a New Year’s Eve party. Schnibbe hasn’t decided what will come next in that space.

In additional Schnibbe-related restaurant news, the forthcoming SideBar is now taking over the space next door, forcing the November 18th shutter of Blue Mountain Coffee. SideBar plans for a December 1st opening. // Falala Christmas Pop-Up Bar: 14 Loudoun St. SE, Leesburg
