If you care about animals and sustainable living, then you’ll want to add this Alexandria event to your calendar. The ALX Dog Walk will be held Saturday, April 18, in Old Town.

The ALX Dog Walk is a nonprofit with the goal of educating people on the benefits of plastic-free and sustainable living. This year, the organization is partnering with the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria. ALX Dog Walk proceeds will support year-round sustainability education and AWLA efforts.

The event will be emceed by NBC4’s StormTeam4 Meteorologist Chuck Bell and Monte Durham of Say Yes to the Dress Atlanta and Salon Monte. It will include a DJ, park games, a doggie face painter, and a portrait artist.

The walk begins at 8:15 a.m. at Oronoco Bay Park in Old Town Alexandria. Walkers and their pups head down Union Street and loop back along the waterfront to Oronoco Bay Park. The walk is about 2 miles.

There will also be a dog show competition (this year’s theme is wedding fashion), a dog obstacle course, coffee and baked goods, and an expo area with local businesses.

The registration fee is $35 per person (with or without a dog). Participants receive a cotton drawstring backpack, T-shirt, and doggie bandana. Registration closes on April 17 at 9 a.m.
