As you do your back-to-school shopping, consider buying something extra for students in need. Tysons Corner Center has partnered with nonprofits and the Fairfax County Police Department to spotlight community needs and entrepreneurship among children. You can drop off needed school supplies and buy products made by children at three mall events.
Through noon on August 5, Tysons Corner will collect donations for Mobile Hope, which supports homeless and at-risk youth. You can drop off the following donations at Concierge, located on Level 2 near Starbucks and The Plaza:
- New or gently used clothing
- Feminine hygiene products
- Backpacks
- Liquid glue
- Markers
- Colored pencils
- No. 2 pencils
- Glue sticks
- Small school box
- Two-pocket folders
- Zipper pouches
- Crayons
- Wide-ruled notebooks
- Rulers (inches and centimeters)
- Pink erasers
Children in Fairfax and Loudoun counties can then pick up the school items they need at no cost through Mobile Hope’s Back-To-School Village.
Mall Events on Saturday, August 10
Two events are happening from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, on The Plaza.
You can help Stuff a Cruiser with back-to-school items to support the Victim Services Division. Victim Services assists crime victims, their families, and witnesses.
Here’s what’s needed:
- Backpacks
- Crayons
- Pencils
- Pens
- Markers
- Notebooks
- Glue
- Highlighters
- Folders
- Gift cards to Target, Walmart, or Giant
If you can’t attend the event, you can drop off school supplies at the Tysons Corner Center Concierge on Level 2 of the mall near Starbucks.
You can also buy items from children between the ages of 5 and 17 at the Children’s Entrepreneur Market. The free farmers market–type event gives kids the chance to sell their products, meet with customers, and handle money at their own booths set up on The Plaza.
