Civil War Encampment at Sky Meadows State Park
April 9 & 10 from 10am-3pm. Step into the world of a Confederate infantryman with the Hedgesville Blues as they recreate the way soldiers lived, marched and fought. Catch a glimpse of the weapons, tactics, signal flag demonstrations, enlistment ceremonies, and unit drills on both Saturday and Sunday with ongoing interpretation throughout the week and weekend.

Frontier Day at Crockett Park
April 16 from 1pm-5pm. Try your hand at hide-tanning, rope-making, candle-dipping, soap-making, wool-spinning, blacksmithing and woodcarving at this year’s annual Frontier Day. Celebrate the pioneers who moved west in the 19th century and feel free to dress up in your pioneer best. Costumes are not required for entry. / C.M. Setting the Stage at Piedmont Station (now Delaplane) the first troops to transport via train are en route to the First Battle of Manassas. “Living historians” bring the Proclamation to the People of Northern Virginia to life with reenacted scenes based on the first hand accounts of Ida Powell Dulany and Susan Curlette. Battle of Thoroughfare Gap Commemoration
August 27 from 9am-6pm. Check out First Virginia Cavalry Confederate re-enactors, tour the grounds of the Confederate victory at Second Manassas and meet a Union survivor of the Battle of Thoroughfare Gap as interpreted by a “living historian.” Tour guides include noted Civil War historians Childs Burden, Jim Burgess and Bruce Slawter.
