Some very talented dogs will soon show off tricks that go far beyond “sit” and “stay.” The city’s first DockDogs competition is happening at the Wharf in Washington, DC, on August 8.
The free, family-friendly event invites viewers to watch as canine athletes compete in challenges of speed and agility. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at District Pier.
The event includes competitions like the Speed Retrieve, in which dogs sprint down the dock and into a pool to retrieve an item, or the Big Air, in which dogs jump more than 27 feet in the air. The Extreme Vertical has dogs leap from the dock to grab a toy that’s suspended above the water — they often jump six to seven feet high.
The day will also have raffles, prizes, oversized ribbons, medals, and a ceremony for the winners.
The event begins with Speed Retrieve from 10:30 a.m. to noon, followed by Big Air competitions at 1 and 2 p.m. The Extreme Vertical is at 3:30, followed by the awards ceremony at 6 p.m.
